35th Annual Bieg Piastow Cross-country Skiing Race
Almost five thousand competitors from twenty eight countries will be taking part in this year’s 35th annual cross-country skiing race called Bieg PiastówAlmost five thousand competitors from twenty eight countries will be taking part in this year's 35th annual cross-country skiing race called Bieg Piastów, which takes place this weekend in the cross-country skiing area of the Polish town of Jakuszyce, which is situated near the international road just across the border, about four kilometres from Harrachov .
Bieg Piastow, the oldest cross-country skiing event on a mass scale in Poland, is becoming bigger and more popular every year. For a few years the race has belonged to the Wordloppet Ski Federation, which is the world's leading federation of cross-country skiing races. The races start and finish in the area of the large cross-country skiing stadium in Jakuszyce. The tracks go mostly through the beautiful forest scenery of the boundary between the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše. It is in this area where one of the World Cup's cross-country skiing races will be taking place next year.
At this time, no more applications for Bieg Piastow can be accepted due to a high number of registered participants. However, Jakuszyce is still worth visiting this weekend. The atmosphere is always great!
