Meeting with Krakonoš 19.3. 2011
At the end of each winter Krakonoš, the lord of the highest Czech mountain range, regularly comes to Harrachov to meet all good people. This year, this popular event takes place on Saturday, 19th March, 2011. This event has a long tradition and this is its 65th year. Those who come to this event in Harrachov will not be disappointed. From ten o'clock in the morning the training meadows in the centre of town will become the scene of competitions for both children and adults, folk craft presentations, amusements, specialities of the Krkonoše, and generally a varied cultural programme. Krakonoš traditionally comes to Harrachov through the Nový svět pass (Novosvětský průsmyk) at eleven o'clock in the morning, which is when he will appear in a horse-drawn carriage with his suite at the crossroads near the Karolína hotel. His procession with masked participants will then be walking through the town all the way to the centre, where Krakonoš will make his traditional speech at noon.
Tickets to the meeting with Krakonoš cost CZK 50 and can be bought now at the Harrachov tourist information centre in the Municipal Office building. It will also be possible to buy them for the same price in the centre of town. Admission for masked participants and children is free (which also applies to parents accompanying their children).
Come to visit Harrachov – you certainly won't get bored and you will have a lot of fun.
