Museum of Mining in Harrachov - Get to Know Underground of the Giant Mountains
After the winder break the Museum of Mining and the guided gallery in Harrachov are again open from May.The Museum of Mining in Harrachov opened its regular summer operation on 01.05. 2013. From this moment the Museum is open for the visitors every day, except Mondays, from 9:00am till 5:00pm. During the summer months, i.e. in July and August, the Museum will be open seven days a week from 9:00am till 5:00pm. Gates of the Museum will be closed again in this year late autumn, on 31.10.
The Museum of Mining and the guided gallery were open in March 2003 at former adit level. The Museum presents minerals of fluorite deposits, tools and aids used for mining and extraction, maps and photographs documenting work in this deposit.
The guided gallery is ca 1000 m long, the route passes through the typical ore mine environment; the path is covered by chippings and lighted, the average annual temperature is 10–12°C here. When entering the gallery, the visitors are equipped by the safety helmet and protective overcoat. Besides the complete hoist and exploiting machine the visitors can also admire the mine cars, the battery loco, the mine loader and other technical helpers of the miners. The guided tour lasts ca one hour and the tourists will be acquainted with the work in the ore mines which are nowadays already closed.
The Museum of Mining is located in the eastern outskirts of Harrachov, under the Ptačinec hill. There is the central parking lot close to the Museum of Mining (150m) with adequate capacity of parking places. The Museum is surrounded by the path leading to the natural pearl of Harrachov - the Mumlava Waterfall.
