Vrchlabí - Giant Mountain

Vrchlabí - Giant Mountain

The Giant Mountain's biggest town worth visiting. Throughout the year!

Vrchlabi is the centre of the highest Czech mountains as it is the seat of Giant Mountains National Park administration. The town is dominated by the Palace, which is in the Renaissance style and currently serves the public as the municipal office building. The Palace is surrounded  by elegant park, which is freely accessible for relaxation and walks. Picturesque local square is dominated by the Old Town Hall, which is now the site of regional tourist information centre. Other historical sights include the church of St Lawrence, four historical houses and Augustinian Monastery. The residential premises of the monastery now house a Krkonose Museum exhibition on the nature and history of the region, and the arcaded walkway is frequently used for various exhibitions

Thanks to its location, Vrchlabi is an ideal starting point for hiking and biking treks. A major attraction at winter time is the artificial snow cross-country track leading around the new sports complex with a football stadium. In the summer, Vrchlabi si the central crossroads of Giant Mountain-buses, so, for example, from Harrachov it is possible to change the line  to Spindleruv Mlyn, or continue to the eastern part of the Giant Mountains. At present,  Vrchlabí is an important economic and trade centre and, until recently, Skoda brand cars were produced here.

From Harrachov Vrchlabi is easily accessible by car. The road leads mostly through the valley of the Jizera River and the journey takes approximately 45 minutes.
